How Can I Save More Energy For The Earth??
I want to know ways that I can save more energy.
I already have:
1. picking up garbage around beaches and parks
2. turning of the light when I don’t need to use it
3. turning off the water when brushing teeth
4. taking 5 minutes to shower
5. recycling
Does anybody have smart ideas to conserve energy??

Picking up trash and recycling do not save energy. In fact I argue that they use energy. Especially picking up trash. If you just did nothing and let the trash sit there then you would be using zero energy. If you pick it up, not only are you using your own muscle energy, but some trash hauler then has to empty the trash container you filled up and haul the trash to a dump in a vehicle that uses energy.
What more could you do? Never ride in a motor vehicle (or do it less often). Never turn on the heater or air conditioner (or do it less often). Never buy anything from any store or on line seller (or do it less often), because all those items took energy to manufacture and transport.
In short, the more you give up, the more you save. Even giving up a clean park saves energy.
Maybe, but going local vegetarian definitely will. Less gas to transport your veggies. Beware of folks from People Eating Tasty Animals when you are contemplating this part, as they will use fertilizer from the abused animals they won’t eat because they claim them to be abused. Are you in the right climate for solar energy to reduce your bill and energy use? Can you go public transportation and save all the money you would have spent on gas and upkeep, while reducing congestion and the need to recycle a vehicle later. If you own a power boat learn how to sail, and enjoy the waaaay reduced fuel cost and impact on the planet. Fluorescent bulbs throughout the whole house. Demand water heater that stores no hot water, and only creates it when you call for it (It super heats its on the spot).
In addition to all the other answers, which are excellent, you can make sure you’re buying local produce and even meat — less energy used to get it to you. If you can afford it, get a motor scooter — I saw something on CNN recently that they get 87- 100 mi./gal. and start at $1700. Switch to all CFL or LED light bulbs (LED save more energy than CFL, but cost more – also saw on CNN). Use fans whenever possible instead of air conditioning. If buying any new appliances, always buy the ones with the Energy Star certifacation on them. For small baking, roasting, or broiling batches of food, use a toaster-oven instead of a full size oven. Close shades or blinds in summer to prevent the sun from shining into your home to save on air conditioning. In winter, keep them open and let the sun come in and solar heat your home to save on heating energy. That’s all I can think of right now.
Thanks for caring and trying to do your part. Keep up the good work!
Take a bus, car pool, ride a bike, or walk when you can.
Change your light bulbs to the energy savers
In the shower, get wet… turn off the water… soap up and rinse, repeat this for your hair.
Unplug appliances that you aren’t using… like the microwave, everything that is plugged in (even when not “on”) uses some electricity.
If you have your own home…. collect rain water in a barrel to water flowers or your grass (if needed)
Also, compost your veggies, fruits, bread…and use it for soil when it’s ready
Try to buy items that aren’t overly packaged… if you can’t find one, make sure that the packaging is recyclable.
Bring you own bags to the grocery… or when ever you shop, canvas bags of different sizes are great for this.
Buy paper products that aren’t bleached, are made from recycled materials.. the higher the percentage, the better.
Don’t ever buy Styrofoam.
Don’t throw anything away that someone else might think is a treasure… donate it, or put it on a list like Freecycle.
On your electric bill, make sure your electricity is coming from a good place… there are options in a lot of areas…
Ok… done for now.
Congratulations on your interest for saving the Earth! Here are just a few other ways in which you can help save energy:
-Before you shower, fill the bath tub up with just a few centemetres of water and shave your legs that way, it will save gallons upon gallons of water!
-Pick one day a week like Sunday to get a group of friends together (or go it alone, it dosen’t matter), picking up garbage around parks, highways, and beaches (which you are already doing, but it’s my favourite so I thought I’d say it anyways)
-Make a compost bin along with your recycling bin. This will DRASTICALLY cut down on garbage.
-Unless your car is absolutely needed, cut down on your car time by walking everywhere possible, invest in a bike, and taking the bus or subway.
-Choose two days a week to turn off all your lights after a certain time, like 7 pm.
-Get everyone you can into doing these things to! You can even create a group if you have the time and energy, but make sure you stick these ideas in your friends heads to keep in mind, absolutely everybody makes a difference.
About the vegetarianism, it won’t help a wholeee lot to save energy but it will work WONDERS for saving animals. I strongly, strongly urge you to go vegetarian, theres no feeling like it. Even if you’re not quite sure you want to go vegetarian, it helps to educate yourself about it first. Please, please go to http://www.peta2.com and put your address in for a free DVD on saving animals, free vegetarian cookbook, loads of free Save the Animals stickers, and plenty of more stuff! It’s truely a great thing to do, and I applaud you for thinking about it. Good luck on your save the earth venture!

promote geothermal power. its the cleanest, cheapest, highest yield alternative.
Your transportation – Use public transportation, ride a bike, walk, combing trips, etc.
Do an energy audit of your house and see which items consume the most energy – replace them with more energy efficient models or use them more sensibly.
You can ride you bike, carpool, buy milk that is in a glass container, but riding a bus or large van actually polutes more gas into the air then just riding in your own vehicle.
